My life in 1000 words or less…

…people are always telling me either how helpful, insightful, or how obnoxiously loud I am, so naturally I saw fit to put together a personal blog where I could practice these god-given talents.
I’m a Canadian-born male of Turkish & Armenian descent. I’ve spent close to half my life abroad, away from North America, and have seen much of the world that remains an untold story; a list that includes but is not limited to Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Peru. I feel that I’ve had a different life in that I had to take on personal responsibilities sooner than much of the youth of our culture. As a result, I’ve developed a keen eye, and have come to consider my perception as one of my greatest personal assets.

I’ve spent close to five years playing video games professionally, and close to the same amount of time being an in-house consultant for private residences, small businesses, as well as a couple private schools in the Greater Toronto Area. I’ve recently involved myself in emergency care as an Emergency Medical Responder (a volunteer position for a squad of 50 students at my University in London Ontario) who oversees first-response E-M-S/9-1-1 exclusively on campus here at school, and am also in the midst of writing a book on a popular topic (that I would rather not share until I am close to publication!). I’m currently near the end of my second year here at the University of Western Ontario, and look forward to a summer recuperating from a taxing 8 months of schooling.

Some of my favourite pass-times include following some of my favourite television shows (Scrubs, Lost, South Park), playing Soccer & Dodge-ball, lifting weights, web design, writing, guitar hero… and well, yada yada.

Five things I’m better at compared to the 99% of you (maybe more):

  • I’m a faster runner; I’ve never been an amazing athlete by virtue of the fact that one particular sport hasn’t interested me as much as Counter-Strike did when I was growing up, but I’ve always been a sprinter.
  • I’m more calm; there are maybe two things in life that truly bother me, and even at that, believe me they’re trivial at best. Nobody bothers me, I’m too busy maintaining an absolute control to be bothered with the drama that is daily life – one day I woke up after realizing how silly most of the simple problems people deal with are, so I decided to just let it all go – feels good. As soon as you stop letting emotions govern your day to day, you seize power of yourself, and others
  • I’m a problem solver, I seem to always get myself out of trouble, get my friends out of trouble – it’s just what I do, I find myself hard-pressed to name a few examples, so look to see an article or two regarding my stupendous adventures.
  • I’m the best driver you know – I’m confident on the road – I’m quick to react, and know my limits. I’m never holding traffic up, and I’ll get you from point A to point B as quick as possible, usually within legal limits. I am by definition, a superior driver.
  • I know what to say; I always know what to say – I’m a people pleaser… when I want to be. :]

I currently have two cats, I adopted them from the Humane Society in loving memory of my last cat, Roger, who passed away of old age after a great life of 17+ years. He was born in Malaysia and was fortunate enough to travel with us home to Canada after we moved back for good – it’s for him that I went to adopt Domino & Tetley – in his honour because he was such an exceptional animal, and what we truly consider to be part of the family.

Three things in this world that annoy me:

  • Complacency: this is something that breeds mediocrity; the drive to be adequate, the drive to be regular, the imperative that maintains the norm. People who are happy with the status quo, are those who stagnate and create nothing but problems for the rest of us. They’re the first to complain during an economic crisis, the first to bitch when something doesn’t go their way, and the first to cry as soon as they run into the slightest of obstacles – the complacent of the planet drive our problems, exclusively.
  • Smokers: I obviously find it difficult to to apply this retroactively to my friends and family because of my emotional attachment – I would hate for someone I care deeply for to read this and get the wrong idea, but it has to be said. Smokers are one step beyond the obese. Not only are you killing yourself slowly, you’re likely killing others in the process. Especially in my country, when your health problems arise, tax payers (smokers and non-smokers alike, are the ones who have to bear the burden – and why? Smoking is relaxing? Meditate, do some yoga, take a bath with some Epsom salts, don’t make excuses. If self-destruction is your goal, believe me, there are faster, more interesting ways to do it, spare the rest of us. What’s ironic you ask? Smokers collectively embody the tumour in society’s otherwise healthy body, which will inevitably find itself in your mouth, throat or lungs, sooner – statistically, rather than later.
  • Phonies: sort of goes hand in hand with someone who’s a liar – and nothing is worse than someone who is dishonest. You fabricate a facade to serve your best interest; to fit in, to coast by, to feed off of others. You’re not just a leech, you’re a coward, do the world a favour, and do yourself a favour – be your own man… woman… have some self-respect.

Five things you probably don’t know about me?

  • I’m left handed
  • I underwent minor surgery at the age of 10
  • I was born with 2 pairs of ureters
  • Currently authoring my first book.
  • I’m in love… :]

I couldn’t write 1000 words without mentioning Catherine… she might end up punishing me… so there that is, sweetheart :].

Lastly, if there is one thing on my mind, daily, it is that I would like to retire by the age of thirty. I’d like to live and experience fifty different countries before I’m fifty.
